5 Effective Linkbait Ideas

Some of you might all ready know what “linkbait” is, but for those of you that do not, it is providing high value content on your site/blog that is worth linking to. It can be graphs, lists, videos, podcasts, and many other types of topics. The more informative you are about the topic that you are covering, the more likely someone is to link to it. You have to look at it from the perspective of the average user that owns a site. Here are a few questions that I ask when I am creating something that I want people to link back to:

-Would I link back to it?
-What makes it worth linking back to?
-Who am I trying to get to link back to it?

Generally, as long as I have a clear answer to those three questions, I am much more likely to get links from other websites back to my topic. These will be quality; organic links that you know are going to pass a lot of link juice your way. After all, the best way to get backlinks is by having them come to you. Below, you will find the 5 most effective linkbait ideas that I use as well as many other SEO experts:

5. Videos

Often times, these are going to be one of the best ways that you can get people to link back to your site. The only reason that I have it at number 5 is because many people will struggle to have the equipment and time necessary to make an informative video worth linking to. Even then, it is still worth it in the end. That video will also help you create a different angle with the search engines through media.

4. Podcasts

These audio clips are easier than videos, but still require a bit of work. They are a great way to get your name out there though and get some links at the same time, just as long as you keep them on topic. I have seen a lot of people that fill a podcast with 50% non-topic, and 50% topic. This is useless, and will even turn off any ambition someone had to link to it. It should be closer to 90% on-topic or above. People don’t like to waste their time listening to non-informative podcasts.

3. Lists/Tutorials

One of the easiest ways to get links back to your site is by using lists on a certain topic. This article that I am writing is “5 Effective Linkbait Ideas”, that right there is a list. Studies all over have shown that people are much more likely to link back to a helpful list on their niche/topic, rather than reading through some 2,000 word boring post. It has to be catchy and informative at the same time. Tutorials are also a great idea, and people will link back to them eventually, especially if they find them useful.

2. Charts & Graphs

Infographs have become the hottest thing in the Internet world, and often times are one of the most linked back to scenarios. Charts and graphs can be a wonderful way to prove your point and get backlinks at the same time. It keeps the user engaged and wanting to soak up the knowledge.

1. Free Stuff

The most effective link building tool that I have found is giving away free stuff. Everyone loves to get something for free, and often times this is going to get you the most links pointing back to your site. You can give all kinds of stuff away, including:

-E-books on your topic
-Free instructional videos
-Templates/Themes
-Software

There you have it, 5 effective link building ideas that you can use to get true links. Just remember, the quality of the content you provide has to be worth linking to, otherwise no one is going to want to link back to it.
